Breakdowns

Derek: Average jock-type, but with good intentions. He means well but doesn't always do well. He is the protagonist. Major daddy-issues. Aladdin (Aladdin) mixed with Jake Ryan (Michael Shoeffling) from Sixteen Candles. Baritenor

Cara: Sweet and sour. Goth-ish teen girl with a heart murmur. The heart of the show. She's hurt and isolated. Somewhere between Allison Reynolds (Ally Sheedy) from The Breakfast Club and Ariel (The Little Mermaid) lies this dark-haired angel. Mezzo

Caleb: Derek's disgruntled friend. Typical jock. More brawn than brain but more brain than Kyle. He is a larger version of Emilio Estevez in The Breakfast Club. Baritone

Kyle: Which way did he go George? Comic relief. Master of the unintended mixed-metaphor. The high-school equivalent of Marv (Daniel Stern) from Home Alone with a little Elder Cunningham (The Book of Mormon). Baritone

Elizabeth: Gothic Queen Bee-yotch. The leader of the Goths. Dominating personality, fearless and in control. She is equal parts Ursula (The Little Mermaid) and Miss Hannigan (Annie). Mezzo

Holly: The incidental Goth. Cute and bubbly, her Gothic attire seems misplaced what with the tutu and all. Comic relief. She is Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) wearing clothes she borrowed from Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family). Sorry, John Hughes didn't write a character like Holly. Mezzo

Damon: Too cool for school but he's still in school. Goth kid thinks he's in Green Day. Rock star. He's Charlie Sheen at the end of Ferris Bueller's Day Off mixed with Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd). Baritone (all three Gs)

Bernie: The leader of the nerds. "Bernie is a Big Bang Theory" nerd, not a Revenge of the Nerds nerd. He has a sweet disposition. Caught in a love triangle between Holly and Sally. He is Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) from The Breakfast Club meets an able-bodied Arnie (13).Baritone

Sally: Chic nerd chick. Again, these are "Big Bang Theory" nerds. Sally is vulnerable due to her secret crush on Bernie. Think Kate (Legally Blonde). Mezzo or Soprano

Chet: Derek's overbearing father that lives vicariously through Derek and his friends. He is the school Lacrosse coach and is douche squared. He is Chet (Weird Science) meets Gaston (Beauty and the Beast). Baritone

Betsy: Derek's mother and Chet's wife. Ditsy thing, cute, bouncy, and oblivious. Kinda like Galinda (Wicked). Soprano

Dr. Spinks: Cara's shrink. Intelligent, high-maintenance, flamboyant, and fun. Maybe a bit materialistic. A younger Sandy (Stephen Tobolowsky) from "Glee". Countertenor

FAQs

I'm a minor, can I audition?
If you are a miner then you spend a lot of time underground, digging for coal and such. And you are welcome to audition. This goes for minors as well. Kissless is a teen-heavy show and we would like for the performers to look like teens. (Puck is not fooling anyone, "Glee!") Some of them might even be teens. Minors will be treated as adults and are expected to behave as adults. There will be additional paperwork for the young 'uns. If parents wish to stay for the duration, discount rates will be made available to them but rehearsals and filmings are strictly closed.

Why a remote location?
Glad you asked. Several reasons. First, focus. This is a new concept and as such requires much attention. Second, community. This goes for the community where we will be living and the community we will create as a cast. This project will have a positive economic and cultural impact on a small town. Forty people descending upon a big city like LA or Chicago would go unnoticed. That is not the case where we are going. I hope you like stares. Who am I kidding? You are actors. You live for stares. :) The forced proximity of a cast full of strangers will help develop cohesion and community as well.

What is there to do wherever it is the cast is going?
There will be plenty of things to do when we are not rehearsing, shooting, or performing but the primary focus will be learning the show and executing it. It's a small town. But it has a movie theater. And there is a lake. And clubs/bars. Lots of good restaurants. Area attractions include cows. Oh! There's a sweet bowling alley so if you think we won't be recreating the bowling song from Grease 2 I am afraid you are sorely mistaken. For the tech oriented people, there is 3G coverage and the hotel has good wifi. We will plan several social events during our stay in Te...Oops. I almost said where we were going.

When will we know where we are going?
If cast, you will be told prior to accepting you role.

Can I drive my car?
I don't know. Can you? Sorry. I was being a smarty pants. Of course! If you are cast and want to drive your car to our secret town, then by all means, road trip! You will be given the same amount of travel money as the rest of the cast. With gas prices where they are you might want to ride a bike though. Or a razor. Or those sneakers with wheels in them. What were those called? Oh! Heeleys. Yeah. save money, travel on your heels.
