Meet the Cast!
Derin Tolu, Dr. Spinks

Picture
Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
Auditioning for Kissless was a very quick and spur of the moment decision for me. A dear friend of mine who was very close to the show had been talking about it for months but had never really mentioned that I would be right for one of the parts in the show. Then, a week before the auditions my friend calls me in a panic and asks if I had submitted for Kissless. I said it wasn't even on my radar. I looked the show up, liked it an the rest is history.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I have done many readings of new works in college and after moving to NYC. My most recent show, PERP the criminal musical was one of my favorites. Perp is the show that gave me my connection to Kissless... They say work begets work...so true!

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
Dr. Spinks is a crazy-zany psychiatrist that seems to be practicing continual restraint, as if he is perpetually in a stress minimizing Zen exercise. The magic truly happens when he temporarily lets go, long enough to squeeze in an eleven o'clock number. I am super excited to be bringing him to life. I think he is probably crazier than any single patient he has...with a heart of gold, a synical ego and therapy coat of many colors.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?

My two favorite roles have been Ali Hakim in Oklahoma, Vinnie Diruzzio in Lucky Stiff from the musicals, and Algernon in The importance of being earnest and Gaston in Picasso at the Lapin Agile.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?

I can not wait to play Albain in La Cage aux Folles, the role is so vocally and dramatically challenging yet it must all look effortless. Every minute of bringing that character to life will be utter bliss!

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
At the age of seven, I took all of the blankets out the cupboards of the house and transformed the downstairs den into a fully operational theatre, at least in my eyes it was. Realistically, it probably looked like an aisle at bed bath and beyond at noon on black Friday. Anyway, I then cast my two cousins, seven and three years of age in the show with me, and at that moment of brilliance, the first Michael Jackson/Phantom of the Opera concept musical was born... It's a pity no one saw a future in that genre.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I am a theatre actor through and through, have always craved the roar of an audiences applause and the vulnerable connection you share with them and your other cast members. TV and Film tends to be another animal. Especially if there is no live studio audience, (thank the stars we have one of those) a lot more pressure to produce that energy is put on you without the instant gratification. I come to Kissless with a few commercials, a student film, and some film acting classes under my belt. Bring it on!

What is your go to shower song and why?
There is not one, depends on what I was dreaming about that night. On any given day my neighbors will hear Lady GAGA, Sondheim and Turkish pop music all within the same hour. That's just the shower, you should come over when I am cleaning!

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
Our director, Kaitlin Hopkins said they were holding auditions at Texas State and I read that it was a musical based on kids in high school and thought I should seize the opportunity.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I recently worked with Christopher d’Amboise at the beginning of spring semester on some portions of his new musical.  It was so cool to work on such a new work because our dances, songs and scenes were constantly changing and I got such a thrill from it.  I also have to agree with Rachel; it is such a great show that used dance to drive the plot rather than just entertainment, which made it such a great learning experience.

What "stereotypical" group did you fit into when you were in high school?
I was definitely in the choir/theatre group. However, I got along with lots of kids because they knew I was one of the few guys that could dance and sing, and being in choir and the musical was really cool, in my opinion at least.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
My senior year of high school I got to play two roles that I have for ever loved, Enjolras in Les Misérables, and Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  I miss paying those roles so much.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
Either Riff, Action, or A-Rab in West Side Story.  It’s my favorite show and those roles are so different from each other even though they’re so alike.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
My parents said I was singing before I talked, but I really can’t recall my first memory.  I do remember my first memory of dancing in Pre-School, I still remember the dance, “ Lift the magic ball.”

How much experience have you had with film acting?
This summer my professor, Jim Price, had me do a video shoot for a demonstration video for our school if their was a shooter on campus, or a disruptive student in class.  I was also a dancer in the film Bernie, and I got to dance almost right next to Jack Black.  It was awesome.

What is your go to shower song and why?
I have so many cause I listen to them on my iHome every time I shower.  But my top 3 would probably be “Big Time” by Peter Gabriel, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, and “American Idiot” by Green Day

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I had no excuse not to when I heard it was holding auditions at Texas State. I also love the idea of working on new/evolving works because there is a lot more freedom.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I worked with Christopher d'Amboise this past semester to showcase a sample of a new musical he is working on. The music was changing, the lines were changing, and since we weren't doing the entire show we had to condense and revise constantly. Shout Out: it is the coolest show that uses dance to further the plot and not just entertain. I also worked on a review of Harnick and Bach as a freshman in college, so while the music was set, we were constantly creating/changing the script and flow of the show.

What "stereotypical" group did you fit into when you were in high school?

I was a choir nerd for sure and then a theatre geek. We all marched to our own beat and got out of a lot of class for "rehearsals".

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?

I love being in charge and dancing so I love to be the dance captain. I also loved being "Dolores" in Andrew Lippa's Wild Party.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?

I have been in love with Chicago since I saw it in 7th grade, so Roxie or Velma would be fantastical.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?

My very first musical was in kindergarten, or dare I say even preschool. The class did something called Stone Soup...? and I had a solo about the pot.

How much experience have you had with film acting?

Oh, I have starred in MANY a film...courtesy of my mother's video camera, starring me and my BFF in 7th grade. However, recently I had the opportunity of being a dancer in the film "Bernie" starring Jack Black (yeah, we met him), Shirley McClain, and Matthew McConaughey.

What is your go to shower song and why?

Sadly, I haven't gone to it in a while, but I have a weird obsession with Jasmine from Aladdin, so "A Whole New World".

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
Kaitlin Hopkins was the one to introduce me to this wonderful opportunity and said that you would be coming to Texas State to audition students; I thought "why not audition...it sounds like a cool experience...you never know what could happen"! It sounded like an awesome show to be a part of, and I thought I might have a shot at this since I definitely still look like I'm in high school.  Then I found out Houston Family Arts Center was a part of it's original making which made me even more pumped because I know a lot of the kids who were involved in the process.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
A few years ago I had been involved in a concert called The Gift of Christmas Live, but it was definitely a different experience compared to musicals.  I was also involved in the making of The Stephen Schwartz Project with ACT@TUTS.  This is my first new work that is a musical (with a story line), and I couldn't be more excited!

What "stereotypical" group did you fit into when you were in high school?
I went to a performing arts high school (HSPVA), so the only real clique was the "dancers".  The rest of us were more of a mosh pit that found our own little groups to be close with.  I mainly felt the pressure of groups when I was in middle school; I was in the "theatre/nerd" group, but my closest friends were volleyball players so I always felt like the odd ball.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
I loved being Amneris in Aida because it was the first role in which I had to belt high for most of the show, and also Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre in Spelling Bee because she was such an exciting character in which I also perfected a lateral lisp!

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
I have a few. Annie in Annie Get Your Gun or Kathy in The Last Five Years or Clara in The Light in the Piazza.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
It was when I was nine; I was dancing around stage with a suitcase half my size singing "Broadway Baby".

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I have taken quite a few classes on film acting, but they were in my younger days.

What is your go to shower song and why?
Oddly enough I hardly ever sing in the shower but when I do it is usually Cosmic Love by Florence+The Machine.

Glenn DeVar, Ensemble

Picture
Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
It came to Texas State and I had friends who had previously worked on it, so I thought it would be a really fun project.

What was your experience with new works before auditions? I helped write/create, compose music to, and perform in a piece called "Verb," which was a full length play using mime technique. I've composed music for a few other small plays too.

What "stereotypical" group did you fit into when you were in high school?  It was a mixture between the "Choir Nerds" and the "Popular Kids." I went to a unique high school because Choir was the coolest thing in the school.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
My two favorite roles have been Seymour in "Little Shop of Horrors" and Archibald in "Secret Garden."

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
I have two: Gabriel in "Next to Normal" and Melchior in "Spring Awakening."

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
When I was 3, I gathered all of the students in my pre-school class to sit in front of me and I sang the song "Farmer Tan" from Pump Boys and Dinettes to them.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I haven't had much, other than the short films that my best friend and I would make fairly often.

What is your go to shower song and why?

"A Change is Gonna Come" because I can riff as much as I want and nobody will judge me.

Hannah Morgen, Ensemble

Picture
Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
My mom told me about the 1st reading and I was skeptical at first, but she encouraged me to go to one rehearsal and I heard "Summer is Over" and fell in love.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
Zero. I’m really weird about liking to do shows I know. I should probably get over that.

What "stereotypical" group did you fit into when you were in high school?
Choir/Theater "Nerds". But my high school wasn't really like that. We were considered somewhat popular because we were known for partying and we were talented. I was friends with cheerleaders. I was friends with some jocks. But I definitely wasn't friends with any straight up nerds or goth/emo kids.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
Playing Muzzy at OCU was fantastic. I was the only freshman to be cast as a lead and she's an amazing character. Also Ms. Strict from Zombie Prom, and not just because I was nominated for a Tommy Tune, but more so because I got to scream belt.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
Elphaba. Effie. Fairy Godmother. Dolores. The list could go on. Picture any fierce belting role and that's what I want to play.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
The first time I acted was at my church when we put on a show called "Promise University". I think I was in 4th or 5th grade. I've been singing all my life. Having the mother I have (a voice teacher), I had no choice. There's a video of me singing "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" when I was 4, and I had no idea what the words were.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I was in a movie the summer after I graduated called "Church: The Film". It's at Redbox, sold at stores, on Netflix, and plays on BET occasionally. It was really fun.

What is your go to shower song and why?
Who I'd Be from Shrek. It's fierce and really high and I like to scream about it.

Madison Turner, Sally

Picture
Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I saw the show at the NYMF and loved it. It was actually workshopped in my hometown and a dear friend of mine played the lead. I liked the story and the music so when I saw the audition notice, I went.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I've done a couple of new pieces recently. I just finished performing in the original children's show, Stinkykids the Musical, which won the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Musical. I created the role of Jenn and had a blast! I think doing new pieces is great because you're just able to play without any limits and a lot of yourself goes into that new character.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I play "Sally". I haven't thought too much about her except for the clique she is in - nerd, and what her favorite nail polish is sapphire blue. I find my thoughts and actions for a character come together the more and more once I'm able to rehearse in the show.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
In college, I played the intimidating "Lilliane Le Fluer" in Nine. She was by far my favorite role, and to play her again would be a dream come true!

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
"Mrs. Hannigan" in Annie and "Velma Von Tussle" in Hairspray. Sassy bitches.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
My first memory of singing would be in my church choir, and at the salon where my Mother got her hair cut.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
Since l've moved to New York, I've gotten some extra work but this is my first film! I'm nervous and excited!!

What is your go to shower song and why?
Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'"

David Coleman, Bernie

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I first heard about Kissless from Kevin Lambert who I had auditioned for a few weeks prior to the Kissless audition. He told me to get on Backstage and look into it. I did and I thought it would be a very cool opportunity so I jumped on it. Also, anytime there is a breakdown for actors who look like they could be in high school I am so there.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
In college I was a part of the regional premiere of a musical called VOTE! This show had been at the New York Fringe Festival and they were looking to fully produce the show. Enter me. It was a great experience because I was able to put my own spin on the character and have so much fun and freedom with it.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I am playing Bernie. He is an avid rule follower and thoroughly enjoys schedules and social structures. Because of this belief system he has trouble admitting and acting on his feelings. I am very excited to play with this character and discover his specific nuances and dig a little deeper. Also, for this character, I am beginning to be inspired by Sheldon from Big Bang Theory.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
One of them would definitely be Mark Boyd in VOTE! He was so much fun to play because he was evil and hysterical. Another would have to be the Young Shepherd in Shakespeare's The Winters Tale. It was great to play such a colorful fun character in a Shakespeare show that has some otherwise heavy elements.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
I secretly have a lot of dream roles I would love to play. Boq from Wicked is one of them as well as Jack from Into the Woods. My list of unrealistic gender bending dream roles far supersedes this list, but that is for another day.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
One of my first theatrical experiences was playing Sam Anderson in the play, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. I'm pretty sure the part was written in for me but it was comical, I did a handstand, and everyone laughed. So I guess I was hooked ever since. It's not my first memory of singing but a very strong memory I have was at my high school graduation. I was voted to sing our senior song at commencement in front of my class as well as all the attendees in the Joyce Center at Notre Dame University. So of course the night before I went to a graduation party and got food poisoning and was "occupied in the restroom" right before I went onstage, while I received my diploma and after I sang. It was a GREAT day.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I have taken a few film classes as well as featured extra work in Blood Brothers and on the pilot of Elementary. I have also filmed a couple web series pilots. My initial background is in stage work but in the past couple years I have been getting more and more interested in film which makes me very excited for the opportunity to put them together.

What is your go to shower song and why?
Well that definitely depends on what Pandora station I'm listening to while I'm showering. A few of my most played stations are Kesha, The Beatles, Tracy Chapman and Katy Perry. If all else fails I could probably be heard singing some type of ad lib jam about the shower itself.

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I’ve been fortunate to be a part of Kissless for its entire creative process and every show, so naturally, when the opportunity for a film arose, I jumped at the chance.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
Kissless is my first experience with any new works. The script has changed with every performance, so the film, in it’s own way, is a completely new work for me.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I play Damon, a dark gothic teenager at Forest Glen. He’s lurking, observant, and WAY too forward when meeting new people. He internalizes this rivalry with Elizabeth for leadership of the goths, and doesn’t like being second in charge. He’s frustrated with his position, which makes him a perfect fit with the goths.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
My favorite role was probably “Mr. Mayor” in Seussical. It’s not a large role, but I had so much fun forming that character. Because it’s not a large part, you can do more with it independently.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
I would love to play Officer Lockstock in Urinetown. I saw the show three years ago at a community theatre and it was amazing. That one particular character made me really, really laugh and I want to be able to share that experience with someone else.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
Well my first memory is that I was a "Ballerina Pig on the Moon" in a kindergarten show. My first real acting experience was Jojo in Seussical when I was 10.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I’ve done a few commercials and I was in an independent film in 2009, but I’ve done mostly theater since then.

What is your go to shower song and why?
“Starships” by Nicki Minaj. No shame.

Claire Duncan, Holly

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
Of course, the title intrigued me! Plus, I've been dying to combine my two passions (film and theatre) in one medium! Lastly, it's rare to find a musical filled with younger roles, so I knew it would be a good fit.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
Living in NYC for the past 4 years, I've had the privilege of performing in a ton of new works - I've played everything from an acerbic punk, to a man-eating alien, and most recently, an angry bird.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I play Holly, the "Elle Woods" of the Goths, and I'm beyond thrilled to get to play this part! She's a walking contradiction, and I can totally relate - people often find it hard to believe that I can be bubbly and sweet, and also a little dark... Maybe it's the whole Gemini split personality thing (but only half of me really believes that).

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
When I was 12, I played a kid forced to practice the violin in How To Eat Like A Child. That was my very first musical. My voice wasn't strong enough, so they had someone else sing while I played. Regardless, I caught the bug, and I haven't stopped since.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
I would love to play Clara in The Light In The Piazza! Musically, it's the perfect mix between classical and contemporary. Oh, and I'm a sucker for romance.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
When I was 9, singing "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" by Celine Dion at karaoke, on a ferry. No, wait - writing my very first song, and then realizing, years later, that I had "borrowed" the melody from Bryan Adam's "Right Here Waiting For You". Did I mention I was Canadian?

How much experience have you had with film acting?
Quite a bit! There's a thriving film community in Toronto (where I'm from), so I started there, and continued after moving to New York. In the past few months I've shot several short films, a web series, and my first feature in a leading role.

What is your go to shower song and why?
Something dark and meaty, because I'm not allowed to sing it anywhere else. "Daddy's Son" from Ragtime, or "Unusual Way" from Nine.

Meet the Cast!
Kirk Bangstad, Chet West

Picture
Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
The name “Chance McClain” sounded like it belongs to a superhero, so I thought I’d like to work with a superhero.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I've done a lot of opera in the past, and have created a number of new opera roles.  It’s always cool learning a role without a prior conception of what’s been done with it before. It allows a lot of freedom and creativity.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I play the role of Chet, who is Derek’s father and one of the few “adults” in the show.  I’m imagining that Chet was a stud athlete and popular kid when he was in high school, but that he peaked early and thus hangs on to those “glory years” a bit too tightly, wanting to relive them through his son.  Emotionally, he hasn’t moved much beyond a high school maturity level, which makes him both annoying and hilarious at the same time.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
I really loved playing the Stage Manager in the opera version of Our Town, composed by Ned Rorem.  The music was beautiful and as the narrator character, I was able to go through a range of emotions with the show.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
I’m currently understudying the role of Julian Marsh in the musical 42nd Street, and have really gotten to love the part.  There are 3 more weeks left in the run, so who knows, I might go on!

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
My mom’s a voice teacher and she had all her students put on Menotti’s opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”  I was like 5 years old and she put me in the chorus.  I loved it and have been hooked ever since.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
Film acting?  The only thing I know about film is that it’s the stuff that forms on top of a bowl of Campbell’s tomato soup when you leave it out too long.

What is your go to shower song and why?
“You don’t understand the way she moves, sayin’ that she’s yours not mine, sending roses and your silly dreams, really just a waste of time, because she’s mine….the Doggone Girl is Mine…." Of course this is the coolest song ever sung by Michael Jackson, and I love it because he says the best line ever in the middle of the song to Paul McCartney:  “I’m a lover not a fighter” I’ve used that one a gajillion times.

Meg Whitney, Elizabeth

Picture
Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I chose Kissless, because the word intrigued me, and I have been dying to do a new work.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I've done a couple readings, but Never ever new work film until now....woohoo!!!

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
This is obviously the most important question, because it's ALL about me! My character is Elizabeth...Liz or Beta, as her nickname. I can't decide who's allowed to use either as of right now, but both exist. She is a beta disguised as an alpha. She is beautiful, experienced, jaded, old-soul, lonely, hilarious, random, quirky, fashionable-but doesn't want to be, secretly baptized Methodist, has lots of secrets to share, but can't find anyone to listen because she can't listen to herself first. Her parents are happily married, but work all the time. She has dinner at the same time everyday and table manners are no joke in her family. She is an only child. I can't continue, I'll write a novel if you wish to know more. Just ask.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?

Favorite role hands down was third lady in Mozart's Magic Flute. It was my first opera, and so rewarding.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?

I’d love to play Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
First memory of singing was with my dad in my living room in South Carolina. We would set aside karaoke time, 'Born to Be Wild', and 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You'- were our favorites. Good times.

How much experience have you had with film acting?

One film class with Heidi Marshall, a few webisodes. Film is fresh meat for me! Yumyumyum!

What is your go to shower song and why?
Yay! Favorite question: It's always “Have a Little Faith in Me” by John Hiatt.

Dan Zimberg, Kyle

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
Kissless was one of the many auditions I was submitting for at the time, and when I received news that they wanted to see me, I was overly ecstatic just for the opportunity, not to mention a chance to try out a couple of new audition songs.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?

I have had a couple of experiences with new works.  One experience that comes to mind was a staged adaptation of a concept album called Razia's Shadow by the band Forgive Durden. It was thrilling to be able to create not one but two characters for the stage without any preconceived notions, other than what you heard off the album.  It was great that everyone was in the same boat and seeing the growth of each character as time progressed. Shout out to the wonderful cast of New Jersey's Playhouse 22, Razia's Shadow.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?

I play the role of Kyle, the stereotypical high school jock who uses the gym and his high status, to make up for other things, his IQ for one.  I am hilariously pleased to be playing someone so shallow that it's going to be wild preparing for it.  The first thing I gotta work on is my GTL. Gym. Tan. Laundry.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?

My two favorite roles have to be Ahrima/Adakais in Razia's Shadow, and Claude Bukowski in HAIR.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?

I have this weird hankering to play Frederick Barrett the Stoker in Titanic.  Also if Razia's Shadow ever went to be on Broadway, it would be a dream come true. Also, if the world went blind I would love to play Coalhouse Walker Jr. in Ragtime.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?

I remember when I was younger and still living outside of Columbus, Ohio at the time, standing atop my fireplace pretending to be onstage in front of millions, singing along with Elton John, and Michael Bolton.

How much experience have you had with film acting?

I have had zero experience with film acting, so this will be an incredible learning experience for me.

What is your go to shower song and why?

I love singing Gounod's Ave Maria.  As a classically trained singer it brings me back to college days. As a Jew, it is my vice. :)

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
After finding the audition online it seemed like such an interesting and fun project to be a part of. All the characters sounded like something within my reach, and so I figured...why not a quick trip to NYC?

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I hadn't personally done any new works. However, Penn State Musical Theatre is known for all the new works we do as a program. We participate in something called the Nu Musical Theatre Festival. So I was able to see how those works happened from the sidelines.

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I am playing the character Cara. When I first auditioned I was like...there is no way I am getting called back for Cara. This is because she is described as being a little reserved. Never, and I mean never have I been considered reserved. Although, once I took a look at the audition materials, and eventually the whole script, I realized that it was going to be such a great character mesh for me to work through. Chance has done a great job writing the script in a way that none of her emotions feel forced, and she really is just a teen girl caught in between a rock and a hard place.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
Actually this upcoming summer I am getting the chance to play Natalie in All Shook Up and I have had a BLAST learning all of her stuff so I'm really looking forward to that. My other favorite role would have to be Becca Corbett in the play Rabbit Hole. I did it in high school so the age difference was pretty extreme but, it gave me an AWESOME acting challenge.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
Wednesday from The Addams Family. Hands down, dream role.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
Always being in church. I have been doing church shows since I was like, 6. However, I definitely didn't know this was my career path until about 9th grade.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
None. BUT I had recently decided I wanted to try film because I think it has great work to be done in it.

What is your go to shower song and why?
Right now? I would have to say "Payphone" (Maroon 5) is the jam that I rock out to. Also a great workout song!

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I saw the notice for "Kissless" in Backstage Magazine, and thought it sounded like a really unique and fun project. I am always drawn to exciting new things, and this seemed like one of them!

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I actually have done quite a few new works. It's something I really enjoy doing. I just finished workshopping two new works in NYC. Last year (2011) I had the opportunity to workshop a new musical with a great company. I also have originated roles in two musicals with The Theater Company at Hubbard Hall. It is so exciting and rewarding to be a part of the process of building a new work. I love it!

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
I am playing "Caleb" in the show. Caleb is definitely the jock to end all jocks. He is all about the rules of the cliques, and maintaining a strict order to things. I am thrilled to take on this character, because it would be easy to just fall into the "Caleb is just a jerk, and that's it" trap. I am determined to find what makes him tick, and bring him to life as a multi-dimensional human being.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
I recently played "Jamie Wellerstein" in No Rules Theater Company's production of "The Last Five Years." I really enjoyed bringing him to life, and exploring the entire duration of a romantic relationship. It was a joy to explore the excitement and wonder of a new relationship, and then move across the spectrum to the eventual destruction of the same relationship. It was also fun and challenging to sing!

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
As an actor, I think playing Hamlet is definitely a dream role that would be the ultimate challenge. Stereotypical answer, right?! I would also love to play Jean Valjean in Les Miserables when I am older. Can't beat those songs!

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
My mom told me that she used to play these VHS tapes called "Kid Songz", and I would stand in front of the TV and sway back and forth singing them! My first real memory of performing is being "The Gingerbread Man" in a first grade production. This is my most challenging role to date. Being made of ginger, and still being a man. The research I did for this role was extensive, and involved a lot of eating gushers and watching "Street Sharks" after school probably.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
While I have had more experience on stage, I have done a few independent films, and also done some commercial work for Comedy Central and MTV. So the camera isn't foreign to me! The Icelandic language is foreign to me.

What is your go to shower song and why?
This is definitely always changing. Sometimes I take silent showers where I reflect upon the meaning of life. I am also really tall, so I focus on making sure I don't hit my head on the shower head. But if I am singing, it's usually an aria like "Che gelida manina" or whatever I am preparing or working on. I was totally singing "Soul Crusher" in my shower earlier.

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I honestly didn't think that I stood a chance to land this role again (Megan originated the role of Betsy in the NYMF production of Kissless), so I really went into that room with the sole purpose of seeing some familiar faces and maybe making them laugh. I sang a song that I will NEVER be able to use as an audition song again, but it actually got me the role.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?

I actually was involved with quite a few new works while at SHSU. The forms varied dramatically, but I became very familiar, very quickly, with the last minute decisions to, say, "add a sassy tree upstage".

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?

I am Betsy West. She has changed so much since the NYMF production; I am very much still trying to figure her out. However, there will definitely be more realness and heart to her journey during this production.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?

Princess Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress...and a Sassy, Upstage Tree.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?

I can't even lie... Eulalie McKecknie Shinn in The Music Man. I have been practicing those 'Grecian urns' for as long as I can remember.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?

I can remember singing with the children's choir at church when I was in preschool, and the very first line I can remember uttering was in 1st grade, in a Christmas Musical, and I said something like "I always knew you were a penny pincher, too."  My Tony must have been lost in the mail.

How much experience have you had with film acting?

Tons! Be looking for me in "Butter", with Jennifer Garner, as State Fair Goer looking at butter sculptures, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" as a Street Pedestrian, and Season 3 of "Boardwalk Empire" as a Lady sitting in church pew. While I appreciate all of my adoring fans, please no pictures, I am just trying to live a normal life.

What is your go to shower song and why?

It's not very creative, but "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair". I can be singing a completely different song, in a completely different genre, but the minute I started lathering the shampoo, I am a goner.

Why did you choose to audition for Kissless?
I first decided to audition for Kissless because of the title! Definitely the most appealing title out of anything I've ever auditioned for and now I've got the chance to experience it all.

What was your experience with new works before auditions?
I've done some new student films and independent shorts which were a ton of fun, but this will be my first time getting to go at it on a stage!

What is your role in the show, and what are your thoughts about your particular character?
For the first half of this summer my name will be Derek, the lead jock and captain of the high school lacrosse team. Up until this summer everything has been set for me, like a pre-paved road directing me where to walk to, and don't get me wrong, I'm totally cool with the way that it's all been going! I mean come on, I'm a jock! Now with a goth living in my house, my life is taking a turn for better or for worse, as I find out what it's really like for everyone else in high school.

What are one or two of your favorite roles that you have played in the past?
Quite a long time ago, I played Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. This by far was my favorite part to play, and not because of any applause, but because that was the character that I became fully engulfed by. Once you actually become the character, the rest is play. I'll find that out again this summer.

Is there a dream role out there that you have not yet had the chance to play?
YES. In the play Pirate's of Penzance, I have always wanted to be the Pirate King. I've watched the movie countless times and seen versions of it on YouTube, but I can never fully be satisfied until I play that role. It would be an honor to play the role because one of my favorite actors, Kevin Kline, played that same role and has inspired me over the years that I've seen him in movies.

What is your very first memory of acting or singing?
The first time I ever sang was in 6th grade, I did the middle school play Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. They desperately needed guys, so despite the fact that I had not nearly hit puberty, I was cast as a brother. I soon would find out that I could not hit any of the notes because they were all just too low for me! So, come the night of the show, I was singing an octave above everyone else and the audience could clearly hear my voice over anyone else's.

How much experience have you had with film acting?
I've done film acting in new student films and independent shorts for the past 3 years. Being on a set is loads of fun, and the crew around you is always nice. Plus the snacks are pretty awesome too!

What is your go-to shower song, and why?
Errr...honestly I don't have one...(depressing, I know). I usually just make stuff up! Whatever is on the radio is cool too, but if there was a song that I would pick to be it, it'd have to be "25 or 6 to 4", by Chicago. I love the oldies, especially with all the horns because I play trumpet myself.
